Large and Intermediate Projects

Embassy of India also handles the implementation and execution of large and intermediate projects. Some of the large completed projects include:

East-West Optical Fibre Cable Project:  Laying of 904 Km of Optical Fibre Cable on East West Highway (from Bhadrapur in east to Nepalgunj in west). Formal inauguration done on 9.1.06. Cost of project is IRs.74 crore.

Construction of 22 Bridges and their approaches on Kohalpur-Mahakali sector on East-West Highway in Nepal : All the 22 bridges in three packages (I, II and III) were completed and handed over to GON, Department of Roads in February, 2001 (21 bridges) and in January, 2002 (one bridge). Cost of project is IRs.68 crore.

Development of 22 farmers managed deep tube well irrigation systems in Jhapa, Sunsari, Saptari and Siraha. Cost of project is IRs.5.53 crore.

 Ongoing large and Intermediate projects

B. P. Koirala institute of Health Sciences, Dharan: Infrastructure part has been completed and faculty support is ongoing. The total project has cost about INR 120 Crores. The institute building was formally handed over to GON in September 1999. GOI will give a Faculty support contribution of Rs 5 Crores to the institute till the end of academic session of 2011.

Establishment of 200 bed Emergency and Trauma Centre at Bir Hospital, Kathmandu: MoU for establishment of the Emergency and Trauma Centre was signed between GOI and GON on 30.07.03.  Cost of the Project is about INRs.93 Crores

Establishment of 100 bed Nepal Bharat Maitri Bakhtawari Hari Eye Hospital at Krishnanagar, Kapilvastu: MOU for establishment of the hospital was signed on April 27, 2007. Cost of project is IRs.25 crore.

Establishment of Manmohan Memorial Polytechnic at Biratnagar: Tripartite agreement between GOI, GON and Manmohan Memorial Foundation (MMF) was signed on 30.6.03.  Construction of buildings of the polytechnic as per original scope of work has been completed. Regular diploma courses in three Departments (Electrical, Electronics and Mechanical Engineering) have started from November 6, 2008. Some additional items of work civil and electrical works costing Rs.2,61,61,263/- are in progress. Interviews for the selection of candidates for the posts of Heads of Departments, Senior Lecturers, and Lecturers in Electronics, Electrical, and Mechanical Department of Manmohan Memorial Polytechnic were held in New Delhi from June 6-8, 2009. Total cost of project is IRs.26 crore.

Establishment of a Science Learning Centre(SLC) at Kathmandu: Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) and National Council of Science Museums of India (NCSM) signed an MOU in 2002 to facilitate science promotional activities including setting up a SLC at Kathmandu. Appointment of NCSM as consultant for the project, who will help Government of India in the selection of an architect and contractor for implementation of the project is under process. Cost of project is IRs.10 crore.

Construction of a Dharamshala at Pashupati Temple Complex. MOU for the project signed between GOI and the Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT) on 10.3.04.  Cost of project is IRs.15 crore.

Integrated Border Check-Posts: Integrated check-posts are proposed at four points on Indo-Nepal border namely (i) Raxaul-Birganj, (ii) Sunauli-Bhairahawa, (iii) Jogbani-Biratnagar and (iv) Nepalganj road-Nepalgunj. DPR for all the four points has been prepared. Detailed Engineering Report of Raxaul- Birgunj ICP has been prepared and shared with GON. Tenders for the execution of the work are being called.

Terai Roads: Interim DPR of all the 20 roads of phase – I have been completed and shared with GON. Final DPR’s of the roads are being prepared. Cost of project is IRs.780 crore.

Rail Links: The following rail links on the Indo-Nepal border have been proposed. Survey work on these links in Nepal has been completed by RITES.

 Mahendranagar-Tanakpur Link Road: Agreement for the project was signed through exchange of letters between GOI and GON on 2-1-2003. DPR for the project is under revision as per Asian Highways standards. Estimated cost of the project is IRs 40 Crores.

 Hetauda Polytechnic: DPR for the polytechnic has been prepared. Land measuring 32 acre has been acquired and registered in its name by Council for Technical Education & Vocational Training (CTEVT). Tentative cost of the project as per DPR is IRs.22 crore.

 Large and Intermediate projects at concept stage

Institute of Technology in Western Nepal: This project is at conceptual stage. A GOI team visited Nepal in June 2003 and inspected the sites identified by GON. These sites were not found suitable. Alternative sites are being identified.

 Establishment of an Education and Research Centre at Dev Udyan, Pashupati Area, Kathmandu: The project is under study and is expected to be taken up shortly.

Bridge over the Mechi River near Bhadrapur in Jhapa: The project is under study and is expected to be taken up shortly.

Construction of Nepal Bharat Maitri Sabha Griha in Birgunj sub-Metropolitan area, district parsa.: The proposal entails construction of a Convention Hall (Sabha Griha) with seating capacity of 1000 persons in Birgunj Sub-Metropolitan City at BP Koirala Park, Birgunj, district Parsa

Construction of Nepal Bharat Maitri Lalit Sabha Griha Lalitpur sub-Metropolitan City Office (LSMC), Lalitpur. The project is under study. Tentative cost of the project is about IRs.15 crore.
